![]() March 18, 2016- Paranormal Lockdown travels to Cleveland, Ohio to be the first team to investigate Franklin Castle aka Tiedemann House. Nick shares that he has researched and wanted to get into Franklin Castle for 5 years. John Tenney joins Nick and Katrina to review some of the history and legends of the location. John shares a story about a woman in black seen in the house. John says the rumors are it is Mr. Tiedemann’s illegitimate daughter. John says that he feels weird in the castle. John has a feeling of his clothes pressing up against him and constricting him. While John is speaking Nick moves over to a hallway. He says he thought he saw someone walking. The form was clear as day to Nick. When Nick is speaking about his experience, John’s mic goes dead. John says he thought he saw a shadow. They split up to try to find or chase what they saw. They find out John’s fresh, new double AA batteries have died within twenty minutes. Typically the batteries last a few hours. They all meet up and feel that the energy at the castle does not want them speaking about the stories related to it. Dee and Jim Romano, former residences of Franklin Castle, visit the location. They had not been back to their former home since they lived there as children. Dee and Jim do not want to go back inside the house. Nick and Katrina convince them to try going back in their childhood home. Katrina asks if Dee is scared in the home. Dee says that, “The darker it gets the more I’d like to get out.” Dee shares a story about the little girl that used to come down and play with her brother and her. Jimmy shares they used to play on the fourth floor and they would see a girl that was hunched down, crying, saying, "Mommy." She wouldn’t say anything else but mommy. Then eventually they would see the girl downstairs. Dee was playing with the girl who was crying about her mother, so she said, Let’s go call her on the phone." Dee said, "The girl told her that she couldn’t call her mother on the phone." Then Dee took the girl to the other room and told her she needed to change her clothes because she couldn’t play outside wearing the dress she was wearing. Dee gave her a pair of shoes and clothes to change into. But the girl would never change. Dee said the girl was very good at hide and go seek. Dee and Jim take Nick and Katrina to the location where they saw the girl the first time. Jim says that he went to the fourth floor to play with his dad’s train collection. He then looked over to see a little girl crying. Dee said that the girl’s dress was from the Victorian era. The Romanos depart, happy to be out of their former home. Nick and Katrina decide to begin a game of hide and seek. Nick hopes that this might draw out the girl spirit, who they think is Emma Tiedemann. Emma Tiedemann is the owner's daughter who died at a young age. #comeoutcomeoutwhereveryouare Nick comments that a part of the house freaks him out a bit. While finishing his sentence, he’s startled by something on his left leg area. Nick says he felt something on the back of his leg. Maybe it was the spirit playing tag. Nick tags Katrina. While he runs away, he asks, “Where are you?” Nick, Katrina, and Rob hear a noise. While Nick is looking around. Katrina asks, “If they heard that?” Nick didn’t hear anything. He joins Katrina where she’s at. Since Katrina was tagged, she starts a new game of hide and seek. Katrina starts to count and begins to seek out whoever or whatever is hiding. Katrina hears some sounds, thinking it was Nick. Nick calls out that he is still in the basement and is hearing knocking sounds. Nick and Katrina both think the sounds were each other. Nick and Katrina regroup. They believe what is in the castle is intelligent. Katrina points out that in the dungeon area, that it felt different. Nick says he hears shuffling sounds. They go quiet. While Rob is filming them, he sees something at his vantage point and let’s Nick and Katrina know. Rob says that he sees something in the doorway of the basement. He describes it as a shadow. He thought it was a lens flare and he looked up to have his eyes adjust. He thinks it was a shadow being trailed by a lens flare. Nick has Rob play the footage back. Nick and Katrina aren’t able to see a shadow upon review of the footage. They aren’t sure what Rob saw. They decide to do an EVP session. Nick asks, “Emma, are you here with us? Did you hear Katrina speaking to you?” When reviewing the recording they hear a yes to the questions Nick asked. Katrina asks if the spirit can take energy and make a loud sound on the floor. Katrina and Nick hear a loud sound coming from the second floor. Nick goes to the second floor to investigate. Katrina asks the spirit to tap Nick while he is on the second floor. Katrina joins Nick on the second floor. Nick says he felt like he was walking through static electricity when he first made it to the second floor. After being up for 22 hours, Nick is feeling the effects of sleep deprivation. Nick and Katrina sleep for a few hours. Katrina woke up about every fifteen minutes. Nick had dreams of someone shaking his head around. Not a peaceful sleep for either of the Paranormal Lockdown team. Nick and Katrina investigate Mrs. Tiedemann’s room which was damaged by an arson fire in 1999. Nick shuts himself in the closet. Nicks feels that he is falling through the floors and it's oppressive. Nick starts to feel drained and like he can’t stand up any longer. He emerges from the closet. Katrina shuts herself in the closet and does an EVP session. Katrina comes out of the closet and Nick and Katrina review the recording. Katrina asks, “Is this your house? Would you like us to leave?” The recorder captures a response of, “Get out.” Katrina asks, “Can you tell me how old you are?” The recorder says, “Seven.” Katrina and Nick set up an electronic spirit box. The box is triggered by a motion sensor and it can answer yes, no, hello, or goodbye. While doing the spirit box session, they hear a noise from the floor below. Nick starts chasing noises to other floors in the house. Nick makes it to the basement where he starts an EVP session. Rob, the cameraman, spots something close to the doors that he saw something during the first night of investigating. Rob says he saw something peek out from the corner. Nick reviews the video. He sees a low mist in the area that Rob pointed out. He believes it may be Emma trying to take on a form. Nick is excited and blown away by the catch. While calling for Katrina to show her what they captured, Nick says he hears the sound of a ball rolling across the floor. It is not Katrina making the sound. Katrina reviews the footage of the mist and is equally excited by the capture. Nick and Katrina set up for bed time. Nick decides to stay in the basement in his sleeping bag directly on the floor where the mist was caught with motion sensors surrounding him. Nick encourages the spirits to walk up to him while laying on the floor. The motion sensors go off. He excitedly jumps up knowing that the only way the sensors are triggered is if some motion is detected. Katrina is two floors above Nick in Mrs. Tiedemann’s room near the closet where she captured some EVPs. Katrina is using the e-box trying to get some responses. Nick reviews his digital recorder and hears a voice say, “I need help. I need help.” The morning comes, Nick and Katrina are feeling more tired and worn out while they struggle to investigate the home further. At night fall, Katrina and Nick decide to try to play some games with the spirits of the house. Nick and Katrina decide to crash for the night. They are completely drained and weakened. Nick is grateful after fifteen years wanting to get inside Franklin Castle, that it has come true, and they are the first ones to investigate. He thinks they have furthered their understanding of the paranormal. Paranormal Lockdown airs on Friday at 10/9c on Destination America. My Two CentsFranklin Castle isn't running a ghost tour though it every weekend but it has previously been investigated. A simple Google search could verify those details.
According to Cleveland Historical.Org: "In 1968, rumors began to circulate around the west side of Cleveland that the house was haunted by the nineteenth century ghosts of Mrs. Tiedemann and her daughter Emma, who died before the house was even built. In the mid-1970s, one owner of the house capitalized on these rumors and offered tours of "haunted" Franklin Castle to the public." It does not appear that the location has been investigated in quite some time.
Now as for the existence of the spirit Emma. Although Cleveland Historical.Org says that Emma never lived in the house other records show that Emma did in fact live in the home. She was born in 1876 and died in 1891, at 14 years old. While other sites tell a different history of Franklin Castle, Cleveland Historicial.Org shuts down some of the legends. "Hannes Tiedemann, his wife Louise and their two surviving children, August and Dora, moved into the new house in 1883. There, the two children grew to adulthood. Both children later married and provided Hannes and Louise with a total of six grandchildren--all boys. The guests, former residence of Franklin Castle, Dee and Jim Romano, lived in Franklin Castle from 1968-1974. Various sites say the Romano family had lots of paranormal activity and did have a paranormal investigation group come into the home after the Catholic Church turned down doing a exorcism.
There is so much written about this home, I don't know if these are quite close to facts. It looks like even with Paranormal Lockdown going into the location, this place still will be a legend and a place many would like to investigate for themselves.
